I was lucky enough to catch a show of Nancy Scheinman’s in Santa Fe at the Klaudia Marr gallery in May. I loved her use of texture on copper and the painting images create a fairy tale like narrative which inspires my desire to paint my stories even better.
I have been fortunate to be able to take 2 workshops from Michael deMeng –I especially loved the one for Day of the Dead in Oaxaca, Mexico! (and I am looking forward to the one in Bali in March!) His intuitive sense of putting the “right” things together in the “right” place and magical story telling skills that are expressed in his pieces inspire me.
Christine Webb of The Artists' Nook has been a big supporter of the arts in the Fort Collins area and always has cool stuff for sale.
Jill Berry’s workshops have been very thought provoking and stimulating for me- I go home “on fire” with ideas. Her explorations on mapping are especially intriguing!
I “discovered” Odd Nerdrum’s work in “Art News” magazine. His figures floating in space both enchant and haunt me.
The rendering of Julie Speed’s figurative paintings and mysterious narrative have me coming back for more.
Squeak Carnwath has developed her own visual language that speaks to me and encourages me to keep working on my own. I am also a “list” person and love the quirky way she expresses those lists.
